The Boeing 737-900 was launched officially on november 10 of 1997 and the prototype flew on August 3 of 2000. The fuselage of the Boeing 737-900 is 2,64 meters more than the Boeing 737-800 ( the most longest 737 ) The 737-900's lenght is very closer than the Boeing 757-200 but his capacity is the same than the Boeing 737-800 (189 passengers in high density configuration).
There are a few little differences in the cockpit, e.g. there's a trim air switch and three cabin temp knobs (instead of two on the -700). On the exterior there should be a tailskid since the -800/-900 are much more prone to get a tailstrike with if you rotate too fast. But for the rest, yeah, pretty identical.

Size comparison between Southwest's 737-800 (left) and 737-700 (right). (Photo by Matt Molnar/NYCAviation) Largest Southwest plane ever: Southwest’s 737-800s are outfitted with 175 seats — nearly 30% more than their 137-seat 737-700s and 737-300s, and about 44% seatier (I just made up that word) than their 737-500s.
